Q: In your website, you say to use baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and salt. I was wondering how exactly I go by doing it. … Should I dip the toothbrush into the mixture and brush my teeth with the mixture 3x a week like you say? Does that mean I shouldn't use toothpaste for those 3 days? Can I still use mouthwash after I brush my teeh with the mixture? What kind of mouthwash should I buy? I know I have to buy a mouthwash without alcohol but there's a lot of brands out there. Also, what brand of toothpaste should I buy and can an electric toothbrush work better than a regular toothbrush?
A: If you are having bad breath and bleeding gum problems then I advise the following;
1. Floss out food between the teeth (use "Flossing 101" technique)
2. Rinse it out with Water Pik (ideal) or use Listerine mouthwash (without alcohol. If you have dry mouth, use "Biotene"). In a severe case of bad breath use a "coconut oil rinse" vigorously for 5 minutes (spit it out but not in sink)
3. Then use a soft toothbrush with the mixture (made in a paste consistency) only 3x a week (It's very abrasive)
* Studies show that people brush better without toothpaste, for they can feel areas that is not clean with their tongue. FYI - I don't use toothpaste when I brush.
Regarding toothpaste:
1. For sensitive teeth use "Sensodyne"
2. With dry mouth, use "Biotene" or a prescription fluoride toothpaste (to prevent cavities)
I like to use the Rota Dent electric toothbrush best, for its "unique futures". It comes with a lifetime warranty but is only available through a dental office.
Sonicare is also very good. The bristles move over 500x per second! You just hold it toward the gums for 5 seconds; however, it takes about a week or so to get use to the vibrations.
Q: Hi, this very morning, my gums were all covered with plaque and it was red, everywhere. So i brushed it and my gums were a little pink again but its bleeding, is there a way to fix it? I think the cause of this problem was when i skipped brushing my teeth a for 2 days. It's swollen now and I'm very worried?
A: All day you eat many different kinds of food..give a good cleaning at night. Old plaque & food left between teeth irritates gums & that's why gums bleeds! Bleeding is? an early sign of gum infection (contagious!)
Also, bleeding means there are open blood vessels for germs from your mouth to spread all over your body! Have you heard of..."Floss or Die!" ? Please read the comments I wrote on this page to help yourself stop bleeding & for Healthy Oral Habits!
Q:I have always had swollen gums, but 3 days ago I got sick with a fever and I am now taking pills. My doctor said it could be a few things, but now? my gums are in pain and bleed whenever I brush my teeth. Is it possible I am sick from my gums and will my pills stop the more swelling in my gums? And even if I am in alot of pain should I floss?
A: Yes, on going gum infection can cause a fever and make you sick.
Ex: What is the first thing a Vet does to a sick dog? They look inside of the dog's mouth! If your pills are antibiotics then yes it will help but you must keep it clean (even if it hurts and bleeds) by flossing and brushing to get better.
My suggestions:
1. Try Coconut oil to clean out? infection
2. Mixture of baking soda/hydrogen peroxide/salt 3X a week.
Follow all above..bleeding will stop in 2-3 days!
Q:I have bleeding in? my mouth from one particular side, i,e from the gums...I have contacted the dentist and she said nothing is wrong with my teeth or gums. She said just to brush regularly and floss .
she said there is no medicine to control it. Can someone else because it really causes bad breath. Please help.
A: Your gums bleed for several reasons: 1) Possible food impaction under gums = try suggested "Effective Flossing 101 and Brushing Techniques" posted on this text comments. 2) Bad breath indicates severe gum infection = swish w/one table spoon coconut oil for 5 minutes to pull out toxin (make sure don't swallow) 3) To stop the bad breath = mix one teaspoon? of baking soda + hydrogen peroxide + sprinkle of salt in paste constancy and brush only 3X a week.
Q: How to treat bad breath?
A: Bad breath is often caused by years of tartar build up (or food left between teeth) that leads to gum irritation, the first noticeable sign is bleeding, which when ignored, leads to a severe infection (ex:like splinters under skin). Your gums will not heal, even though the bleeding goes away (90+%) with effective flossing, brushing, oil pulling, and use of baking soda, until the tartar on your tooth surface under gums is cleaned out thoroughly by dental professionals.
It's a vicious cycle...Slimy plaque left on teeth & gums --> irritated gums bleeds due to inflammation --> plaque gets hard, known as tartar on tooth surface (mineral deposit) --> uncontrolled inflammation turns in to severe infection that smells (contagious!) --> infection is spreading under gum tissue -->teeth supporting bone being destroyed by toxin from infection --> uncontrolled then eventually teeth will fall out!
Treatments...
1) Professional cleaning ASAP is a must!
2) Healthy habits (Brush 2X daily & floss nightly) is your Dental Insurance!
Other causes for Bad Breath: If you are doing all of the above and bad breath persists, then it may be tonsil related or the odor may be coming from the stomach.
1) Problem with tonsils --> Google for home remedies or seek medical help.
2) Food related --> monitor food intake and it's effects afterward.
Q: Why don't Bleeding Gums hurt?
A: Your gum tissue is like the skin on the palm of your hand. When the palm of your hand is over used, it will form tough calluses. Imagine how many different foods are rubbing against your gum tissues day in and day out? Gum tissue is like a tough callus tissue that has very little nerves. This is why very little pain is felt when you burn the roof of your mouth, therefore, bleeding gums are often painless. In very severe gum infection, you may feel dull on and off aching pains in your gums.
Q: I need help. My gums are bleeding. It's been a year now and my gums have been bleeding off and on. What should I do?
A: Follow these steps for effective Brushing & Flossing techniques; Bleeding will go away (90+%) within 2-3 days. It will also eliminate gum disease related to bad breath as well.
Brushing techniques...
* Always use a soft toothbrush
* Don't use toothpaste to monitor bleeding...by checking brush or saliva
* If you have small mouth try a child size brush
Cheek & lips side:
1. Have toothbrush 45 degree angle toward gums
2. Do gentle & circular motion
3. Count 5X per area
4. In sequence not to miss any areas!
5. First 2-3 brush strokes to clean off slimy plaque
6. Remaining 2-3 brush stroke to massage gums (must!)
7. Gentle massaging promotes healing faster!
Tongue side:
1. Hold toothbrush up side down (upper & lower)
2. Put tip of toothbrush in between teeth
3. Just wiggle in circular motion for 5X per areas
4. Bristle must be in between the teeth
5. Must include gums in this technique
6. To clean plague & massage gums
7. In sequence not to miss any areas
8. Do it while watching T.V.
9. May bleed lot at first but less there after
Example: What would you do if you had a cut on your hand that is getting infected and bleeding? Keep it clean to heal it, right?
Brushing alone won't clean out the sugar rich food left in between teeth that promotes slimy bacteria plaque formation. The gums get irritated by day and week old food (= Bad breath!) and causes inflammation that leads to a vicious cycle of oral bacterial infection which spreading under gums tissues. Flossing is most effective way to clean out food between your teeth and scrap out slimy plague on tooth surface under the gum tissue. Flossing techniques..Watch "Flossing 101" Educational video
